Why Do You Need Folic Acid?

Folic acid is crucial for the development of the fetal neural tube. Research shows that adequate folic acid supplementation during the three months before and early pregnancy can significantly reduce the risk of neural tube defects in the fetus.

Recommended Dosage

  • During pregnancy planning: 400-800 micrograms daily
  • First 3 months of pregnancy: 400-800 micrograms daily
  • During pregnancy: 600 micrograms daily
  • During breastfeeding: 500 micrograms daily

Timing Recommendations

  • Start supplementation 3 months before planned pregnancy
  • Continue through the first 3 months of pregnancy
